A few of my birds have started laying the other day. I noticed that one bird is laying soft deformed and another bird (or the same) has layed a brown egg with white speckles. I feed them layers mash from the local feed store which is 20% crude protein, 2.5% crude fat, and 9% crude fiber. I added about 3-5lbs of crushed oyster shells to yesterdays feed and filled up 2 tiny trooths with oyster shells to increase the calcium percentage. Any help would be great. Thanks, Johnnie

New layers often have funky eggs.
Does your layer feed have typical 3-4% calcium added already?
Best to keep oyster shell mixed with crushed egg shells in a separate container.

Egg shells are not about calcium alone, other vitamins/minerals/amino acids are needed to assimilate the calcium.

Good protein levels in your layer feed, might be too high unless you are feeding other foods/treats as well.
