Gideon is 26 weeks old as of September 22. He's healthy, very handsome, mating, crowing, etc, but daddy Isaac isn't so happy to share his harem with Jr. so he must find a home with his own hens. He is non-aggressive, only rather skittish, due to harassment by the older hens in the flock.

He's been free ranging with my main flock for many weeks now and does quite well. He'd be great in a situation with his own free ranging harem. In fact, that would be ideal for Gideon, but he'd do fine in a penned situation as well.

Gideon's sire, my Delaware rooster, has a stellar temperament, couldn't ask for any better. His mother is my sweet EE hen, Maretta, who is 1/2 BW Ameraucana and lays a beautiful turquoise egg.

Gideon has a modified pea comb *therefore, may carry the blue egg gene* and some red streaky markings in various places. He is super-alert, makes really loud alarm calls, watches the skies, and has the makings of a wonderful flock rooster for your hens.

Pickup Only at my home in Fannin County, near the NC line.

I will, too, but he's just a bit much right now for us. Maybe it's the heat getting to us, but we need things really simple at the moment. He's been very sweet so far, temperament-wise, though he's been mating for at least two weeks now. No matter how I've handled him, he's never even offered to bite. If he chills a bit before someone claims him, I have no problem keeping him, since that was the plan all along.

Ooohhh.....Maretta lays BEAUTIFUL eggs, so the possibility that she passed that along are good since this boy has a modified pea! Put over an Ameraucana or EE, or even an olive egger, the offspring would be big, beautiful, and lay gorgeous eggs!

He sure is turning out to be a handsome thing, isn't he? He ticked me off again day before yesterday. Wouldn't come back from free ranging with everyone else, was busy eating grass in a pen extension. I just closed the gate and trapped his ornery little behind in there.

Then, he acted like a nut running from me when I went in to pick him up. DH caught him in mid-air when he jumped up suddenly. He's just a spazz. Never did offer to bite either one of us, has never shown aggression, but he yelled his head off like we were trying to put him in a soup pot. He just doesn't go with the flow like everyone else here. I'm sure he'll eventually mature, and he is getting better about some things, like going up the ramp at roost time, buzzing past the mean "old lady gauntlet" but he's causing us to expend too much energy, not to mention, his daddy Isaac is losing patience with him. Ike body-slammed him for no apparent reason yesterday as Gideon was leaving the pen to go on range. Guess he's grabbed Daddy's favorite hen one too many times, LOL.

ETA: as of September, Gideon is calming down quite a bit. He still hasn't shown one bit of aggression and I think he'd make an awesome flock rooster with his own hens, but his daddy Isaac still refuses to share and none of the girls will willingly submit to him, so the poor thing has no place in the flock. He has filled out beautifully and is extremely handsome, with wonderful wing and tail carriage.
