Delayed Maturity in Winter?

Hello all! I got 8 chickens back in the first week of December. I was told 5 of them were between 8 and 10 weeks, and the other 3 were “right about to start laying”. Well, one of those three has been laying since a couple days after I got them. Nobody else has laid an egg.

Is it possible they’re delayed because of winter? I know some chickens tend to slow down in the colder weather. Is it likely that they’ll just start in spring since they’d be schedule to start mid-winter? Thanks in advance!

It is very likely that they are delayed because of winter. Many breeds tend to stop or reduce egg laying in winter.

I know some chickens tend to slow down in the colder weather.

They slow down because of the shorter days, lack of daylight, not the temps.
Who know just how old these birds really were/are.
Give it time, they'll come around.
