New to the whole chicken thing....Got our first egg from a RIR hen about 5 days ago. We didn't know who layed it (10 hens and it was on the ground) The next day we figured out who it was...actually watched her lay in the laying box. She seemed a little confused as to what to do with it...kept rolling it around until I took it away. Well yesterday she layed another egg in the box. This time she wanted to sit on it. Had a time getting it from her...she wouldn't move. Had to completely move her from the box to take it. Well today she has just been sitting behind the water hanger...head down...doesn't really react when you touch her or anything. LOOKS depressed. Not eating or drinking today...I haven't seen her move. What could be wrong with her? She is about 6 months old. All other chickens are acting fine. She is the only laying so far.

I found hens do like to sit on their eggs for a while after laying them, then they'll happily jump off and let you have it. But it sounds like your hen may be sick. What worries me is that she's not eating or drinking and is unresponsive. Post in the Emergency/Disease section?
