New here - and I have a question regarding my Tom. He has been acting strange and I am curious if anyone else has seen similar behavior.

We have a 3 year old Tom who lives in shed turned coop with a large attached run. The last week, he has been hiding in the back corner of the shed sitting down. When I approach him, he will hiss at me and try to peck me but won't stand up. At one point, he was even gobbling and puffed up while still sitting. I assumed that he injured/sick but after some prodding, I was able to get him to stand up (he got so annoyed with me that he tried to chase me down). He was able to walk without issues and after a minute or two, he went back to his corner and sat down again.

We do have two chickens and two chicks (well, pullets technically) in the run with him. The pullets spend most of their time in the barn with the turkey and sleep in there with him at night since the mom hen has resumed roosting.

The Tom is reminding me of a broody hen. Is that even possible? Is he depressed because he spent all Spring strutting for no female turkeys? Or is something else wrong with him?

There have been cases of broody toms. We usually see at least one thread a year about it.

Get your tom some turkey hens and he should snap out of it.
