Depression in chickens?

I'm worried my current hen will be really upset when I get rid of her friend (our little roo) I don't want to but per city ordinance I have to plus I'm lucky my landlord was fine with the hens but she specifically stated no roosters. I don't want to rock 2 boats. Anyway, I'm going to get another hen for her (likely an Orpington) I'm worried she will get depressed (sounds stupid I know) but these two roam the yard together. They freak out if they get separated. Her more so than him. They lay down together. Plus I only have those 2 so she would be alone. My worry is the new gal will be a chick so it will take a little time before I can have them together full time.

She wont like it when you take away her only buddy, so id get another hen/ pullet before you get rid of the roo, then it wont be as stressful.

I think I going to really make it up to her by getting 2 buddies. It makes me sad when I see them laying out in the yard side by side, her head resting on him.

Awww they made me tear up a little, im a big softy when it comes to my littlins same with my pups lol.

good idea getting 2, however you will just have to make sure they don't bully her, or if you get 2 of different ages/ types or even from different places. However good luck with your babies

The two newbies will be buff orpingtons which I've heard are really sweet and don't bully. They will also be younger. She's about 8 weeks. These new gals will be about a week.

I wholeheartedly support your getting buff orpingtons! They are wonderful creatures with great temperaments! We have 2 of them. They are very sweet and love to be petted!

Good luck with the new additions! And sorry you have to get rid of one of your 'friends'.

I will be praying I get 2 hens. Lol. I'm okay with him going now. I know he will have a good place to go to and I was promised he won't be butchered.

So far the new buffs now named Minnie and Daisey due to my daughters obsession with Mickey Mouse clubhouse lol they are so much more calm then the marans ver where when we first got them.
