This implant is no longer available for chickens. For those of you who rely on it, do you know any alternatives?

My hen had emergency surgery to remove an 6 at six months and then was essentially spayed to prevent laying. At the time, my vet stated how important the implant was. Now what?!

The vet is 2 hours away and won't discuss alternatives unless I make an appointment with her in person. I am trying to get some info on my own first.

My understanding was that it was never approved for use in chickens and those vets that did use it were doing so " off label" . My own vet wouldn't do it for one of mine when I asked several years ago, because it was not approved. Talk to your vet.

Interesting. My vet said the label just changed and now it's not available. I found another vet and made an appt and hoping they won't change their mind

Hopefully some folks who have recently gotten it will help. People post about them a lot, and I have seen posts from Bellvue, WA, and Pennsyvania in the last year or two. I think the implants are used in other farm animals, and perhaps a farm vet would help you.

Someone just last week posted about not being able to get a hormone implant in the US. But it seems a lot of people have vets who will do them off label.

I found a vet, also about two hours away, who will do it. Glad I found one but hate that I have to go so far!

Are you able to PM me with the names of any vets (or anyone) in or near Georgia willing to do the implant? We got terrible news at the vet today, and my girl is not even three. Almost wish the vet had not told me they would provide the implant for other “pet” birds but not a chicken without risking her license. I’m heartbroken.

I'm sorry but I'm.in Kentucky. The vets I know of are in Indianapolis and Cincinnati

You might post a new thread about it asking about Georgia, including your town or region. Some folks in GA may respond.
