My girls are doing great . They are just about fully featherd at almost 4 weeks. My question : Is there one brand of all round wormer that will rid all major types of worms ie gape, tape, and round worms. When would you deworm for the first time and how often throughout the year. My girls will have access to pasture and may require more frequent dewormings .Thanks for your input!

Valbazen liquid cattle/sheep wormer will get them all. Dosage is 1/2cc for standard size chickens, 1/4cc for smaller chickens. Your chicks are too young to worm. I would wait til they are about 10 months to a year old. How often depends on your environment. I worm mine once a quarter due to our warm moist soil conditions, heat and humidity most of the year. If you live where it's cold, frozen ground or mountainous area, it may only be necessary to worm once or twice a year...it's up to you though. ETA; I remember you, you have the Westies lol!

I worm once a year but we get freezing temperatures here. Last year was the 1st time I wormed and I used wazine followed 10 days later by safeguard. This is year I will use the safeguard again and then next year I will use Valbazen. I followed the advice given by dawg53.

Yep I'm the Westie gal!
Thanks so much for the info! I was looking at a couple of sites for poultry wormers. Vet Products Direct AU for one. They had a nice selection of all round wormers for good prices but I couldn't find any info on dosages etc. I was thinking I would wait till they were about 4 months before treating them anyway before they start laying but didn't have anything to base that on. Is Valbazen an all round wormer?I'm seeing quite a bit of poultry wormers are off label and my Rasing Chickens For Dummies shyed away from specific info on brands saying "consult your vet". Also because I have dogs I sure don't want them picking up anything. What about coccidia? They aren't on medicated feed? According to RCFD I should have started them on a medicated feed.I do have sulfadimethoxine powder on hand but wouldn't have any idea what the doseage rate would be for 6 little chickens. We are in Virginia so it's pretty toasty come June-Sept dry but bugs galore and grasshopers=tapes!

I just started doing my research for a dewormer for my chickies. I'm very surprised to see that Valbazen is used for chickens. I also raise dairy goats and have Valbazen for them. Other goat farmers are strongly opposed to using Valbazen for their goats as it is very hard on the liver. I have used it on my goats with great care, I know EXACTLY how much each goat weighs and then I watch closely for the next week to make sure there are no side effects from the dewormer.

So having gone through this with my goaties...I'm surprised to see that you can use it on chickens.
