One smallest banty eggs decided to start early, pipping on day 18, hatching about 1/2 of them day 19 along with a slightly larger bantam welsummer chick. Today is day 20 and less than 1/4 of the eggs have hatched and the DH is worried they have all failed late. I'm trying to get him to be calm and give them several more days at least before he gets depressed. I told him day 25 is when we declare true failures.

3 more were pippign this morning so he is admitting he still has some hope.

I have bantam faverolles going into lockdown tomorrow.....this will be my first time putting bantam eggs in the bator. I have to say my big fear is that they will start hatching early and I will lose them.....

Good luck to you

When we moved them from the bator to the hatcher on day 18 two of the eggs protested loudly at being messed with. No need to candle them!

Do bantams normally hatch that early? Or should it be day 21 like regular sized chickens?

I have had early bantam hatchings before... but I've had plenty of bantams hatch at 21 days. I guess it depends on each ones individual growth?!

Have him wait... no big deal.
