Hi. I have three diamond doves. While I am a parrot and poultry breeder, I know very little about doves. I adore the little things and they seem to return the sentiment. They are 2019 hatches for the white ones and the gray/blue one I am unsure of his age but I was wondering what other people think about gender?
I think it is as follows…
Bird A a hen
Bird B and see roosters
Do you agree?
Bird B and C roosters
Do you agree?
I do notice that bird B does the bow coo. And bird c used to until I got bird B Now he’s not anymore. But at first bird C would try to mount bird B. I figure it could be a dominance thing when they were first introduced. And that bird C was just assuming the role of a rooster in the absence of one if the little one is in fact a hen? I bought them at a poultry show swap meet when they were chicks for the two white doves. The breeder thought they were hens at the time but they were very young. I do know for certain that before bird B was introduced, bird C would bow coo and mount bird A. That has since stopped but the bird is otherwise acting fine (meaning it is adjusting well to the change in pecking order). But it was at least a year after bringing them home that bird c would mount and coo to bird a. So I’m puzzled.
Again, I’m almost sure bird a is a hen. She even lays in her nest often (she hasn’t laid an egg). And bird B a rooster. But bird C is a mystery even if I am leaning towards rooster.
Diamond dove authorities- please sound off! Thanks.
