Hi, I was wondering if you can help me with Betty, my Jersey Giant, 8 months old, egg layer. She seemed lethargic in her run today (laying down, closing eyes standing up, and only scratching with beak). I separated her and took a picture of her poop. Her vent is clean, no sign of gape worm. Placed probiotics and electrolytes in her water. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hard to know for sure without a vet, but her droppings have a yellowish cast. Are the white urates always yellow, or do they just look so by the yellow fluid in the poop? How does her crop feel—empty and flat, full and hard, doughy, or puffy? The crop appears enlarged in the picture. Check it again in early morning before she eats or drinks anything to see if it is empty. Also check her lower belly between the legs to see if it is enlarged, spongy, or tight.

Is she eating or drinking? Has she been laying eggs recently?

The white urates are always white. The yellow does not look it came from the poop. It looks like a different aspect of the poop. I also saw it in the coop last night and it had more structure. Her crop feels puffy, but so does my other Jersey Giant. The other chickens' are hard. I will check tomorrow morning to see if it is flat. In other words, her crop is normal for her. Her lower belly feels normal, same as all others. She is eating and drinking and layed an egg yesterday. Thank you for your help!
