Help!
I have a foster Muscovy sitting on 4 (now 3) eggs, after the mom, a Silver Applyard Mallard, died unexpectedly. They are due to hatch in the next day or two, but this morning I found a duckling, no shell around her, but with the yolk attached. No movement, and not under mom.
The ducking isn't pecked at, just the egg is gone, assuming mom ate it.
There's no way of knowing for sure, but are my other eggs safe? I'm tempted to pull them and buy an incubator, but if mom was responsible for the duckling being dead, wouldn't she have eaten the duckling, or at least peck at it?
This is so all consuming!!!! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much!
