Just got my new flock...1st time raising chickens. I was given a mix that came with the coop I bought. One 1 year old hen laying now, two 3 month old pullets, two 2 month old pullets and 1 adult rooster, I was told to feed them Nutrena Layer Pellets. I got them 5 days ago. Now I'm reading that Layer Pellets can hurt younger birds. have I done any damage? Going out tomorrow to buy appropriate food...should I buy starter food for all since they are all in same tractor? And put out crushed egg shell for layers? Read that on different post. I am really worried that I hurt my little ones. Thank you for advice.

I doubt your pullets/cockerels or the cock will have been affected by 5 days of layer pellets. :) Layer pellets have too much calcium for non laying birds, but 5 days should not be an issue.

I wouldn't do starter, I'd just pick up grower or an all-flock feed. Then set out oyster shell or crushed egg shell for the one hen who is laying.

Thanks SavageDestiny. Was going to ask at the supply store this morning...headed there now. I had already started saving my egg shells & crushing them so I will add in a side dish.
