So I made a coop with three nesting boxes protruding from it with a lid on top. Two of my eight hens are starting to lay. They were running around yelling all morning and going into the nesting boxes to dig nests in the straw. I went inside for a while, and later came out and didn't hear any noise. I opened the boxes and saw a chicken in one of them, silent. Now I just found one egg in a different nesting box, and one under a bush in the yard. Did I scare this chicken away from using the nesting boxes? If so is there anything I should do?

Thanks.

Ehhh...maybe....fake eggs or golf balls will help hem to lay in the nests instead of elsewhere.
Sometimes it's best to leave them cooped up for most the day while they are learning to lay so they get into the habit of laying in the nests where you want them to. I peek in the nests sometimes while they are in there, I don't think they mind much as they know me.
