Did my hen shrink wrap her eggs? She got up during feeding time, so I took the moment to peek at her eggs and discovered some pipped! I was so excited until I shined my flashlight and now I’m worried if the one is shrink wrapped.

It is actually normal for hens to get up while the first pips are happening. No reason to think they are shrink wrapped. (Incubator eggs are in a human altered environment that makes them slightly more susceptible to shrink wrapping)

So relieved to hear this. 🥰 Thank you!

I have had chicks get shrink wrapped in the shell even when they were hen hatched. But I had 2 broodies next to each other and they were swapping chicks and nests and such while they were hatching. It's probably fine, but I would just keep tabs on it.

Cute! What is your broody's ancestry? She's got a crazy comb.
She’s a Pavlovskaya barnyard special with a v-shaped and single comb mix lol. Our rooster is a Cochin barnyard special. She has been incubating a mix of Golden Comets, Amerucauna, and Brahma eggs, possibly a French Wheaten Marian and one of her own eggs. I can’t remember all I put under her lol. It will be fun to see what these little ones become.
