I have a Collie and a doxie/basset/terrier somethin else mix. My collie wants to herd them but wouldn't dream of killing one, but my normally calm attentive mutt unfortunately gets a blood lust in his eyes at even a whiff of them on my shoes, much less seeing them. No amount of work on my part will change him, I think it's the terrier in him. So needless to say they can never be in the same fence together.
