So today is hatch day. Had 8 hatch so far but one egg just died :hit Seemed like it was doing really well, had externally pipped, then suddenly died. I did a quick eggtopsie and the chick was slightly mal-positioned and heap of blood was in the egg like it had pecked a blood vessel? Does that happen?

Unfortunately yes this can sometimes happen. I’ve had it happen a couple of times. Sad yes, but part of nature and it’s ways.

Good luck with your other chicks.

Thank you people. Definitely sad this happened but I'll keep my mind on the 8 healthy fluff balls I do have and more to come :love

Pretty sure I know why the chick was mal-positioned. While I was away I had a broody hen on 4 eggs, she got off the nest and the eggs were left stone cold over night. By the time my parents found them they felt it was too late so they didn't put the eggs in the incubator :he a few days later I got home and put them in the incubator myself. Somehow 2 out of 4 survived because they went dormant in the cold, one has hatched perfectly and yeah other was mal-positioned and hit a blood vessel unfortunately
