In the Brooder
Hi all!
We've recently got into backyard chickens and picked up 4 chicks for our flock - 2 Buff Orpingtons and 2 Golden Laced Wyandottes.
We got them as chicks and they were all sexed as female, but we're starting to think that one of our Wyandottes is a rooster.
Our chicks are about 8 weeks old, so I know they're still young, but this one (Muffin) just seems like it's developing differently... Especially when compared to Brownie, our other Wyandotte.
Here are some of the differences we're seeing between it and the other three:
- Comb and wattles are forming much faster and turning bright red. The other three’s combs are tiny and pale.
- Very short tail feathers
- Feather development overall has been much more slow compared to the other three
- Much more dominant. We call him a bully, but he’s not really mean, he’s just dominant.
- Legs are thicker than the other three
- Feathers are more vibrant than our other Wyandotte.
I've attached some pictures of Muffin and was hoping to get some input from the experts
Thank you!
