Coons wiped out the flock last week... My wife really took it hard, but the surprising thing to me, is how much i miss the little guys.... throwing the table scraps in the garbage is the tuffest time...... this week is more fencing, re-enforcing the coop etc... hopefully we'll get a good hatch from the fertile eggs we had, even tho we don't know how long they were in the fridge 1 day-1 month, since this was unexpected.... sure miss the 5 am wake up call also....

I have hatched eggs out of the fridge after we lost our favorite little polish hen. They all hatched fine! Some were even in there a week or two. It's always worth a try, good luck! Losing chickens is always hard.

I don't wish that on anybody. I don't know how and feel and don't care too. I already know I'm attached to mine. I can go outside and head to the coop and no matter where they are here they come a running, or should I saw waddling. If be chance they don't see me, I holler, "come here girls" and you can hear the leaves russling and here the come. That would be a hard deal to swallow. I do hurt with ya.

We do get attached don't we. I haven't lost any girls yet. And I know with free roaming my yard all day I take that chance. At night my coop and run are about as reinforced as can be 2x4"s with hardware cloth sandwich in. I would miss the same thing. Sorry for your loss and I hope your eggs hatch vibrant healthy chicks.
