Difference male/female

My meat chicks are 4 weeks old. I will post a pic later if required.. but I noticed some of them have.. what I call red ears. I am not sure it is really the ears..

It is exactly like this picture (not mine). What I mean is the vertical red line on the left of the eye:

I wonder if it means that those with the red are roosters, or it just happens when it's too warm in the coop? Seems like sometimes the red is more apparent.

At first I thought it was an injury from a fight lol. But no, many of them have that red thing and it doesn't bleed or anything.

EDIT: this one doesn'T have the red things.. female?

I'm no expert (and I'm sure someone else will chime in)......
But mine are 3 weeks old & you can start to notice the comb on the rooster's head larger than the females.

I think you are looking at the earlobe. It is a bare patch of skin next to the ear opening.
 
Oh! Thanks ;) I guess I was questioning for no reason. Maybe it is redder when it is warmer and that's the end of it ;)
