hi all, just a bit of advice please, i have young birds of varying ages and at some point they will all be together so i am just wondering how i go about feeding layers pellets to the ones at 16 - 18 weeks old when they are ready to lay, Sept time, and then the others who will be in with them by then and will only be approx 13 weeks old? as i know the younger birds don't really want the calcium that is in the layers pellets?
will i have to keep them separate until they can all have the layers?

I give all my chickens, of all ages, Purina Flock Raiser. I offer oyster shell on the side for layers. There are also other brands of all flock feed. Since feed is perishable, this is a good solution for me. I have been feeding this for 4 years, they like it a lot and don't waste it.

I would just keep them all on the Starter Grower feed till the youngest are 18 weeks old, and put a container of Oyster Shells out when the older Pullets are 16 weeks old. They will consume the Shells as needed and the younger Pullets will show interest in the Shells as they mature. 20181214_095753.jpg . I feed a Non-medicated Starter Grower 18% to my hens (22 months old). Eggs from my Barred Rocks. 20200623_084933.jpg
They've never had a Layers feed.

It makes it easier to have one feed when you have different ages. And the higher Protein is good if you give treats or you let your chickens free range.
My newest addition to the family.

Hi
Thank you so much. A sensible and effective solution I’d never even thought of!
I’ll ll leave them all on the starter and have the oyster shell out until the youngest are 18 weeks old which will be a while as I have babies coming along and more eggs in the bator.
thank you 😁🐔🐥
