hello all!
I am new, I posted a question on my introduction but realized that was probably the wrong spot.
I have had laying hens for 3 years now, no rooster and it's been great! this year I noticed one of my hens decided to be a brooding hen. she continued to collect unfertilized eggs and try to set them so I contacted a local poultry farmer and got some fertilized eggs to switch. after talking with him he said I could put all kinds of different birds under there and she would take care of them, the only thing was once any early chicks (like the quails that are under there now) hatch she would ignore them and continue to sit on the other eggs until they all hatched. well now I have been told the opposite from another farmer that she will ignore the rest of the eggs and raise the quail. so I think I am going to remove the quail eggs a few days before they should hatch and try to hatch them myself, if anyone has any information on this would love other ideas!!!!
thanks!!!!
