Never thought of a digger squirrel as an egg thief. Had one that I have been fighting with staying out of the feeder, but keeping spills cleaned and picking up overnight leftovers seemed to make it very scarce.
3 days ago, I had a fake egg go missing from the nest box. Looked in the coop.... nothing. Looked in the run.... nothing. Found it at the base of the wood pile where that little bugger called home. I kept the coop door closed, which would force him to enter through the run. And, consequently, have seen 5-6 eggs per day from the POL pullets.
I finally caught him eyeballing everything from on top of the wood pile. He took a few seconds too long and died from lead poisoning.
So. I’m 99.9% sure digger squirrels will steal eggs from nest boxes.
