Digging nests?

Noticed two chicken sized holes in the ground about a week ago, and i collected my first egg not half a foot from them.

I'm wondering are they digging nests, or was it a coincidence that the egg was nearby?

I'm going to spruce up the nesting boxes a bit, and hopefully she'll come around.

Just not sure what to do about the holes/nests! Is it going to be an issue? Should I fill them in?

They are probably digging dust bathing holes. New layers sometimes drop eggs as they don't know what's going on initially.
