Digital Thermostats Question please

I'm wondering. This is a stupid question I'm sure.
Reading the termomtor has a in and out temp.
witch one do you go by?
On my first hatch I had the termontor in the bator and had a 50% hatch.
Husband wants me to leave it out side and put the cord inside the bator.
The more I read the more I get confused!!!

The probe reading is the OUT temp.

So its not reading the Inside temp or the Humidity.?

If you have the unit outside the bator, and its set on OUT, its reading the TEMP in the bator only, and the HUMIDITY in the room. If you place the whole unit in the bator, it will read the humidity in the bator, the temp in the bator, and the temp at the end of the probe.

Ok I'm going to put it back in. And now re adjust the temps. And try again on a hatch.
