dirt bath recipes for chickens

OK. Let's see: $8 for sand, $2 for candles, and $10 for wine. For $20 I can buy 10 new chicks and throw the dirty ones away!

If this were selfsufficient.com, we'd make our own wine & candles! That total is more like:

Beehive: $200
Candlemaking supplies: $75
Vineyard: $450,000
Winemaking school: $20,000
Supplies: $2,000

Sure nuf... better throw away those dumb dirty chickens.

For a brief on-topic moment, sharp sand, what we call 'play sand' is generally not recommended. It gets in their eyes and can do harm.
Now back to the frolic

I'm using clean play sand with a little DE mixed in and the birds love it; hubby is building a little sand box today for it, the box will take one bag of play sane and about 1/2 cup DE. I wouldn't use colored either.
