I'm going to be converting a shed overhang into an enclosed chicken coop for 7 chickens. The overhang is on the south side of the shed. Thought I would dig up the soil, put metal fencing in the ground for a barrier and cover with sand for the floor of the coop. Then frame in the sides. Finished coop will be 4x5 with a 6-8' slanted roof. I'm on the wet side of Washington. Is there any benefit to having a wood floor for chickens?

How's your drainage there? One benefit to a wood floor is that you could build it raised up on deck blocks so if there is a drainage problem it's under your coop and not in your coop. Dry bedding beats soggy bedding any day.
