My black orphington chick who is around 2-3 weeks old has been getting poop stuck to her butt and has been walking around with it hanging of her! Is there something wrong? I have been cleaning it off but it keeps happening! Sorry this is so gross

Some chicks get it. It's called pasty butt. Just make sure ya clean it off if it cakes on there and they can't poo they'll die. Should go away once grows and gets used to feed and such

Pasty butt is common. Make sure u chec them every day. When my chicks get it I clean it then put a little Vaseline on and Around the poop hole. It seems to help them

OK i have a quick question, one of my chicks i acquired had one of the worst cases of pasty butt i have ever seen. about an inch caked on her bottom. i cleaned and treated it and have only had to clean her once more after but she is at least half the size of the other chicks she supposedly hatched with. now somewhere i read that if they cant relieve themselves is inhibits growth as well. could this be the case in her size? she seems to be thriving now but still just isn't catching up with the other four. could this be because of the pasty butt she had for who knows how long before i recieved her and if so, will she always have developmental issues?

My 3 that had pasty but did seem to feather out a bit slower but are fine and caught up. One is fully mature now and you'd never know she had it as a chick.
