Two of my Buff's have dirty rears. their eggs are always dirty and I have to wash them. what can I do for the hens. I'm still a new by and I would like some help with this

good question. A couple of my hens have dirty rear ends too, and I'd like to know an answer too! I just figure my hens rear ends are dirty because the fluff gets in the way, maybe a trim is in order?

I have to do a yearly "butt fluff" trim on my girls and it takes care of the dirty eggs. I put on my rubber gloves and have one of my boys sit on a chair out by the coop holding each hen backwards for me while I trim. I don't get really close, but close enough that it will make a difference. It's almost time to do that again here.

When I have a rash of dirty butts on my girls, I feed them a large tub of plain yogurt and laying mash stirred together. They love it. And then I will add 1 tablespoon of ACV to a gallon of water for 3 days. Usually clears up the dirty butts.

I have a large roasting pan that I am recycling. I put the tub of plain yogurt in the pan and dump laying mash in the pan and then stir them together.

ACV is apple cider vinegar.

The yogurt feeds all the good bacteria in their digestive system, helping the hens to use nutrients better. The ACV just gives them a nice healthy boost.
