Two nights ago we were woken up to our 5 week old chicks chirping away. I jump out of bed and run out to their enclosure to find everything totally fine except that we were short 7 birds. I heard one chirping and found it on the other side of the house with two small puncture wounds (one on the shoulder and the other on the opposite flank). Their enclosure is a portable fence with a 3 sided coop. The fence is admittedly not that strong and even the chicks manage to sneak out of it. There was not a feather or a single drop of blood in the fence. In fact until we found the wounded one we were convinced it was people stealing them. We are wondering what stole our chickens! Could it have been an owl (or more than one). 7 birds in one night seems like a lot!

Fox maybe... Not an owl though, it wouldn't take that many, so I'm guessing fox

Would a fox just steal them without leaving a trace?

maybe a mink they dont leave a trace and they leave to puncture wound and that ia all ant the can fit in really small areas
