Hello

My silkie has just been laying a little over 2 weeks and today we got an egg with a little discoloration with spots. The egg shell looks like it is intact and we have been giving her layer feed and oyster shell on the side since she started laying. Any ideas what’s going on? The eggs have looked just fine up to today.

Just a glitch in the pigmentation department.

Looks like porosity, is the shell thin(ner) in the discolored areas?
Can also see porosity by candling.

That’s definitely a possibility. I’ll try candling and see if it appears thinner at those spots. Thanks for the tip.

Just candled the egg. Didn’t seem like the egg shell was thinner or less dense by those blotches. Upon a closer look, I noticed that there are actual little brown spots almost all over the egg. I think at this point it’s probably a pigmentation issue as suggested by the earlier post. I’ll look at the inner egg shell when we cook the egg. Thanks again.
