Hi all,
Please respond, I need an answer here. One of my silkie hens is really verbal this morning, wandering around aimlessly chirping/screeching. She has drank and ate and laid one egg this morning. It's only her second egg ever so far. She is still young about 9 months old. I've never seen her behave this way. She goes from my back porch to the hen house screeching. She is walking fine and doesn't look like it's physical but she seems totally uncomfortable for the first time ever. I don't know what's wrong with her. I gave her her egg back this morning thinking maybe she was looking for it but she doesn't seem to care and is still wandering around. Does a hen behave like this before they go broody? Maybe this is somewhat normal but I've never seen her or any of my silkie hens do it. Any clues or guesses would be helpful. It's a pretty day here sunny and around 79 degrees so weather is good for them today. I just can't figure out what's wrong with her. She's the only hen doing this today of my flock of 22. Just makes me nervous and I'm wondering if something is wrong. When I pick her up she is content to sit there still and quiet as she always does so I guess she isn't in pain,,,,,I guess. Any thoughts? Anyone? Thanks, Julie

Sometimes my bigger chickens ( not my Silkies ) let everyone know that they laid an egg. Could that be it?

I guess that is totally possible. Anything is at this point. She's my smallest hen out of all my birds, only about 5 inches tall. I can't believe she can even lay an egg. I've always called her "Baby" since that's what she looks like. She's a little white silkie hen and allllways has a dirty butt. She has since she was born. I used to wash it about once a week but now I gave up. None of my other silkies have this but Baby's butt is always funnnnnnnky! I remember when she hatched she had somewhat of a bare spot back there and of course her skin is black so at first that's all it was. Now, it is hard for her to release everything,,,,if you will and some gets stuck on her skin/feathers. I try and get it off as I can. She is the only bird who has this issue. Strange but no matter. I don't think it's related to her wandering around today. I'm just going to watch her close all day and see if any changes occur I guess. Thank you for responding

Julie Watching your baby discontent will drive a mom crazy you know. Just like having a whining toddler! Looks like she needs a nap to me but I can't force her
