My chicks are old enough now that I can give them treats. It's fun to watch as they check things out. I started by giving them an apple to play with. They were afraid of it at first, but soon learned that it tasted good when they pecked it. Now that they know that "round and red" tastes good. Yesterday, I gave them a tomato. Ha ha....they really loved it! It took them a while to get it open, but once they did, all hell broke loose and they polished it off in good time. Not even a seed was left. I had originally given them some cream of wheat because it was cold and raw all day and I wanted to give them something warm. They all tasted it, and then stuck their noses up at it. They didn't like it sticking to their beaks. Tonight, I minced up some leftover roast beef to see what they would think of that and the result was just as I suspected. They gobbled it up like crazy.
It's fun to watch as they taste new foods for the first time. Has anyone got chicks that have a favorite treat? I'd like to hear so I can get ideas for other goodies I could try.

It may take a while for them to figure out that they can eat it, but once they do, it will provide lots of entertainment for them.
