Dixie Rainbows

Anybody have any thought on the Dixie Rainbows? I have some on order and will pick them up in August. So excited. This will be my first time raising meat birds. When I was young, I used to help my Grandpa, but he had Cornish Xs. So any thoughts would be appreciated!

We had someone doing a grow-out journal on these, but apparently they gave up. That's too bad.

Anyway, when I emailed S&G regarding using the Dixie Rainbows as meat birds, they told me that I should go with the Red Rangers instead, as the Dixie Rainbows were more of a dual purpose chicken. Judging from their performance charts, it looked like the Dixie Rainbows beat them all, in performance, so I wasn't sure why they would say that.

We had another person, last week, saying that they had a lot of size variation in these, and that some were still in fluff at 5 weeks!

Well, I'm going to wait and see how others do with these before I try them. I currently have 150 of JM Hatchery's Colored Range Broilers, and they all seem to be doing well. Nothing grows as fast as a Cornish Cross, but these are coming along nicely.

I'm thinking about adding a grow out journal for my second batch. Maybe that will help. I really like mine.
