Dizzy started her life here as a "house hatch" chick (bred in an incubator in the dining room) along with her five siblings....the five others were all male and were sent to freezer camp when they matured.

All six vacated the dining room when it became apparent that they found their wings and were donating their poop on various items of furniture...so, they were all fully feathered and lived in one of the stables alongside KT who raised them as her own and showed them how to behave in an acceptable manner.

All was well until Dizzy and her Brothers decided to land into the yard I was working in...they were all perched upon a wall about four foot from ground level...each of them spread their wings and flew successfully to the ground...apart from Dizzy, she did not use her wings and landed at my feet with a resounding thud! At first I thought she was dead..upon picking her limp body up from where it had landed I realised that she was still breathing....I isolated her and checked her body to attempt to find any broken bones...she was severely concussed and was in shock, I did not hold out any hope for her survival...but she pulled through much to my surprise and joy.

Dizzy is alive and well although not quite normal...her elevator seems not to get to the attic...

I have posted some pictures of her...her behaviour with KT is bizarre..she mounts KT's back to lay her eggs..as she is about to pass her eggs she spreads her wings and stands almost upright...her neck feathers grow in an upward direction..she is so lovable and I do so enjoy spending time with her..she will lay on her back as if she has died..no movement whatsoever...when I shout at her she will get herself into an upright position and look at me as if to say "what is your problem"?

rSadly KY died recently and I thought that Dizzy would be distraught... I gave her a small teddy bear to console her...she let me know in her indomitable way that a teddy bear was not allowed in her stable.

Dizzy is a breath of fresh air...having lost four of my beloved chickens in the past month to various illness, I look at Dizzy and she re-affirms my belief in my endeavours to give my flock the best that I can offer for their health and happiness..

Thanks Dizzy for the antics and for lifting my spirits when I am feeling low at the loss of one of my beloved chickens.

Excuse the poop in the photograph a broody duck deposited it!

Comic relief is always welcome, and Dizzy sounds like she is very good at providing that. I'm sorry about the losses you have experienced recently. I usually find my chickens' antics help lift my spirits after a loss, too.
