Hi y'all! First post here. My husband and I are planning to buy a one to two acre property next year, so the planning has begun! I was just reading about the deep litter method for a coop and I really like it. I was wondering if the used litter (including poop) might be used as a compost component or compost itself for garden beds? Would it be possible to just use the used litter, or would it be better to add more greens and browns to it? Would love to cross pollinate my gardens with the chickens' output as it were! Thanks in advance!

Yes, yes and yes! I do use some well broken down stuff direct from the run for top dressing, just a thin layer though. Most gets run through my compost pile with weeds, kitchen scraps and grass clippings. You don’t want fresh poop on anything you eat raw like lettuce or carrots.
This is not a complete guide to using chicken poo, just what I do.
