My blue Swedish duck has gone boody she has about 10-20 eggs in her nest i can't get close enough to count cus she made it on the side of the hill by her lake and it covered in thorns vines all the way around the hill. I don't know how long she been sitting since i didn't see the nest till there were about 15 eggs in it and about5 kicked out. She been more on the nest lately i feed her so take a few mins swim then right back she goes . Tho she doesn't cover them up at all when she leaves. My question is Will she be able to care for them when they hatch? I have 12 ducks and 2 drakes. Has anyone let their blue Swedish raise there own ducklings? Id really hate to take them from her after all the work she doing to hatch them. Also how long till they hatch? She wasn't getting on the nest as much a week ago as she is now she basically only getting off when i come to feed her also when my chickens go over to her on the nest she doesn't get off at all even when she sees me trying to sneak a peak to see if she on it . Also i can't get to them to candle them i have tried to get to them before and couldn't there to many thorn vines in the way so it all up to her

Sorry I am inexperienced in this. But just a suggestion; perhaps you could leave just a few babies for her to raise to see how she does and you can take a few into a brooder?

It takes 28 days to hatch..Any Broody can be a great Momma. Sometimes they get scared and abandon the eggs once they start hatching?..It depends on the Hen..Separate her behind a fence or the others could injure or kill the hatchlings, also they could inadvertently get trampled when Momma tries to protect them.
