Hello everyone! I have a Partridge Rock hen who was hatched last May, and I'm thinking she is going through a molt. My other two hens who are the same age have not yet. This would be Tia's first molt also. Is it strange for chickens to molt at this time of year?

We live up north and had a pretty cold winter( not sure if that would make a difference) we do not have a roo, so she's not losing feathers bc of that. She has lost a bunch on her neck, her abdomen, by her legs and her back and bum. She has pin feathers in their place, so no bare patches at all. So I'm just wondering if it's normal for chickens to molt now? She acts fine otherwise, eats good and is active. Thanks for any replies!

Sure - they can molt any time of the year - most will in the fall - but that is only a guidline & I dont' think most chickens can read the rules!
