My poor chickens are having a time of it in this heat (3 weeks of temps over 97 and most of them are over 100 with some up to 108!!!) So I have had the fan on my chicken tractor most of the time including some nights when it is really hot and humid. I have the hose misting the burlap covering the tractor during the hottest part of the day (once they start gaping and showing signs of distress) Now I hear a couple of them making some strange sounds, kind of sneezing I think, shaking their heads a little, and what sounds like a bit of a cough. I have never been round sick chickens before. I am sure it must be related to the heat and humidity. The problem is I am doing all I can to keep them from dying in the heat and now I am wondering if that is going to kill them instead?!! 
I am SO tired of this heat... Advice anyone? I don't have anywhere else to put the sick chickens ( they have all been exposed to whatever it is 5 of them) so I am just keeping this lot together. What can I do and what should I look out for? Is this a cold? We have all had a mild sore throat the last few days that is pretty much gone now, is it related?
Oh I just remembered that two of them seem to be shaking their heads around...? Not that I am sure but it seems unusual compared to what they usually do. Do you think moldy feed might be an issue. What does that do? I have changed out their feeders (it gets damp from the misting) and there is fresh food every day now. These are my Orpington and Sussex hens and roos. They are about 6 months old. I would like to treat them myself as much as possible as we can't afford vet fees right now. I try to go the natural route with any treatments.
