Henrietta, my little Dixie Rainbow (about a year old). Flapped her wings in a very mild and pitiful protest when I tried to pick her up. No runny eyes, no coughing, sneezing, wheezing, panting. Her comb and wattle were hot, so I checked under her wings, felt her whole body. No obvious injuries, but far too warm all over. If she is egg bound, I can't feel it (would I be able to?). Didn't smell or see anything in the brief few seconds I was able to pry her mouth open. Right now she is in a dog kennel in the laundry room with fresh water, some scrambled eggs and olive oil, and peace and quiet. Haven't seen her eat or drink, but she's only been inside for about an hour now.
No crop issue, healthy coloring in skin, legs, and comb/wattle. She stands (doesn't seem to want to sit), keeps closing her eyes, and "smacking" her beak every now and then (like a person might do if they had something sticking their mouth -- don't know how else to describe it in a chicken). Someone in the bunch is laying some ENORMOUS eggs (literally nearly twice the size of the others), so I suppose it is possible she is egg bound? Never had that issue before, just one hen with a recurring sour crop.
Yesterday evening, my boyfriend and I did notice she had a loud clucking episode, but she seemed to be just fine otherwise. This afternoon I went out to check on them and had to search for her -- she was hiding in the dark of an empty horse stall, standing behind a beam. She is usually gregarious and friendly, and always comes out to see me.
