I have just recently moved my chickens (7-8 weeks) out into the coop. At first it was chilly at night so I left a light on for warmth. Now, however, it's warm enough that I don't need to leave the light on at night. The problem is, when the light is off, the only light in the coop is from small vents that permit only a tiny amount of light into the coop if they allow any at all. Since I don't trust my chickens (or the neighbor hood raccoon population) with the door open at night, from the time I close them in at night until I can get them out in the morning I am afraid my chickens live in near darkness. Is this a problem? I don't really know anything about the eyesight of chickens but I'm pretty sure no one has ever compared them to cats in the night.
