Do eggs that die right before hatch time get blood rings?

Hi guys! Sorry if this is a silly question, but this is my first time hatching eggs and I was wondering if eggs that die right before hatch time still get blood rings the same as ones that die earlier? I had 23 fertile quail eggs. 17 of them hatched starting Friday night and the last one finished up Sunday morning. So now I have 6 left in the incubator. I candled them all, but I can’t see into any of them except one. Although that one itself is still pretty dark I can see what appear to be normal veins and there doesn’t appear to be a blood ring, which is why I was wondering.

Thanks for any replies! :)

No eggs that die in the last stages of incubation don't get blood rings. If you candle living eggs near the end you can see darkness up to the air cell and right at the edges of the dark mass there are veins usually visible. When an embryo dies late into incubation these veins are not visible and instead you can see a dark mass that doesn't quite reach to the air cell and just pale, sometimes streaky (where the blood is shrinking away) empty space at the top of the membranes where the veins would be.

This is for chicken eggs but the veins/lack of veins is the same:

What do the air cells look like when you candle these last few eggs?
Are they drawn down?

I find that a phone flashlight works pretty well for shining into the air cell of a quail egg...it works better than a flashlight for me.

Thanks for the replies! I’m fairly certain the remaining eggs are toast, but my incubator had cool spots so I feel bad tossing them without being completely sure. I’m not hopeful at all, but I’ll give them a couple more days as Alaskan suggested just for peace of mind.

The aircell in the egg doesn’t appear to be drawn down, but the egg did look similar to the one in the top photo that Keeper posted. The air cell is at an odd 45ish degree angle rather than completely on end, tho. Most of the eggs that didn’t hatch are the ones that had the wonky/saddled air cells.

And the phone light is great advice! That was how I had been candleing them as well :D

It sounds like it has been 24 hours since the last one hatched and you do not see signs of life in the eggs left.

It is time to call the hatch. It is usually helpful to open the eggs to see if you can see why they did not hatch
