Do Geese get mites??? Is 7 Dust OK???

I use Seven Dust on my chickens for mites and was wondering if I can use the same thing on Geese? Or do geese not get mites at all??? If they do get mites and seven is not good for them then what should I use on them? Please let me know... Thanks

Everybody has told me to use 7 also. I'm wondering if these mites/lice are getting on me since I hold the goslings all the time. I'm going to use 7 today b/c I can't take the thought of it anymore, but I'm going to subscribe b/c I want to hear from others'. jennifer

I think you would know if you are getting bugs off your birds. Anyways I've always been able to feel one crawling on me when I got one on me from a bird I handled. Check out around the vent area to check to see if birds have mites/lice. That's for chickens anyway.

I'm wondering about the OP's question myself because I've never found any on my waterfowl. I wonder if them going in the water makes it too wet but then again thier feathers keep the birds themselves dry so it should stay dry enough for the bugs.

My chickens have mites on and off, its super easy to tell. But the geese have such tight feathering that I can't see skin! I'm quite worried, does anyone know?

In the book of geese by Dave Holderread he says that if geese a kept in clean surroundings very seldom get lice or mites, but if you raise chickens or turkeys then they are more suseptiable to getting them, you can use Sevin or Mange and Lice control, Malathian, it says be very careful not to get it into feed or water when using. I use Epernix Pour-on because it is easier to use and it's almost impossible to get down to the skin on water fowl with powder. . With the Epernix all you do is part the feathers at the base of the neck where the wings start on the back and put drops on the skin { like you would Frontline for dogs} If you do have an infestation you also need to clean out their sleeping quaters and treat it from top to bottom, and then treat birds and house again in 10 days to kill the eggs that hatch out. If they have bathing water that will also help.

You know I keep hearing if their coop and bedding is kept clean they won't get lice or mites. My girls are in a very large run at night inside a 3 sided pole barn. I clean their floor 3x a day if needed. Right now I have a dirt floor and put down large pine shavings for them at night. They have a bathing tub and 3 water buckets. Yet I suspect from the preening uptake they may them. They are 10 wks old. I live in SC where temps have been awful but I have installed two huge fans as well as a water mister for them under a 24ftx15ft tarp. I splurged and bought Elector and will use.

Feather mites can be seen under the wings, they say the base of the neck too but I've never been able to find them there even on birds that have them under the wings. Swimming water that will assist them in keeping mites under control and flea powder works well to clean up any that remain
