Do guineas help keep mice and coons away

Just something I heard and was how much truth is behind it.

Guineas will not keep raccoons away. They are food for raccoons which tend to be nocturnal visitors when the guineas are their most vulnerable. There have been posts in this forum where the raccoons were able to kill guineas in completely enclosed cages because the guineas were too close to the wire or netting and the raccoons removed the guinea's heads.

My guineas do a very good job of hunting mice and voles. I seriously doubt they would be a threat to a rat but can believe they would eat any babies found in a rat nest.

We lost 3 of our 10 guineas to raccoons last year, the other 2 were lost off the nest so may have been coon or may have been another predator.

I haven't seen my guineas go after mice but I wouldn't be surprised if they do. They certainly seem to be interested in anything small that wiggles in the grass.
