Do I assist this chick?

I have an egg under my Silkie right now . The first egg hatched wednesday morning and I expected this one today. I checked on the egg and it seems to be zipping? in a circle on the bottom part instead of around the shell. The shell is still stuck on the membrane but in bits like of you tapped an egg to break it but it just wont break and she seems stuck.sad.png I took a warm wet towel to peel off some of the shell with tweezers without ripping the membrane. I could hear the chick peeping and see the membrane moving from her breathing. She made a pip through the membrane, its about the size of a pin hole.she pipped yesterday morning when I checked. Should I assist further? TIA! <3

This is iffy If you had some poultry Nutri-drench and could find the chicks beak, I would say give it a drop for extra energy to finish hatching. Here is an excellent article by a very knowledgeable BYER which really helped me when I had this problem:

Thank you for your help.I found the beak.her pip had sealed itself. I'm not sure if this is from moisture in the shell or me assisting. I peeled it back just a little bit and she seemed to get a burst of energy then. I hope this is a good sign. I slipped her back under her mother as soon as she started peeping louder . ( luckily momma is very sweet) I hope this works. That post is so helpfu . Thank you soo soo much!!

More than welcome. Yes, that post of hers on assisted hatching is a classic. It helped me save one of my chicks when it needed help hatching.

I ended up assisting more than I was comfortable with but she made it!!

I'm so thankful. It was our first time. It seems she zipped the wrong way. Maybe the first chick knocked her around a bit. Glad to have the knowledge now! Once I peeled away part of the shell she kicked out of the rest right in my hand! What an experience!
