I'm a first time residential chicken owner wanting some pretty heritage breeds, but im afraid in my mix I might have landed almost an entire flock of roos! They are about two and a half months old and I need roos gone before they start causing a ruckus in my quiet neighborhood! Help!

rizzo the amercauna

elsa the dark brahma

clucky the buff brahma

roz the americauna

nelly the australorp

Roz and Rizzo - 100 % cockerels.
Elsa and Clucky - 85 % cockerels. I'd wait a bit before getting rid of them.
Nelly is a pullet.

Elsa looks like a pullet to me but I've never seen these breeds before. To what I know about how to tell a rooster from a hen, Elsa looks like a pullet. I don't see the saddle feathers on her like Roz and Rizzo who are unfortunately for you, roosters. Hope this helps! Good luck with them.

Oops! Sorry I was thinking 4 months instead of 2 months. So now I have to say rooster for Elsa. Sorry about that.

Well, Rizzo just crowed in front of me, so that settles that (LOL...or cry!). I bought 6 mixed breed chicks. What luck. I really was attracted to these heritage breeds, though, and wanted to raise them from chicks for the benefit of my two girls and so that they would become more calm with handling. They are such lovely birds, I hate to part with them. What beginners BAD luck!!!

I have two australorps. One is in some of the photo backgrounds, Shelly, but I'm pretty sure she's a hen. Her comb is quite small and yellow and no wattles, and she looks hen-like to me. The australorp I tried to single out in a photograph, Nelly, she got comb and wattles early and they are red, and her body shape looks a lot different than Shelly. That's why I was unsure about her. Thank you for all of your thoughts, so far. I really do appreciate this site and all of the expertise from you all.
