We just got our first chicks a few weeks. Can someone determine the sex of these 2 barred rocks by these pics, they might be about 7 weeks old now (or are they too young to know yet?)? We are not allowed to have roosters in our neighborhood. Is the lighter one male? I would hate to have to get rid of one or both, they are so sweet! Thanks so much for your help!

Thanks so much! I will definitely research that more, very interesting!! Whatever breed they are, they are both awesome! 🥰

At 7 weeks you should start hearing a newbie crow I would think if you had roo. My boys would do that cough, hack sound, practice crow about that age.

More pics of faces and butts...still not positive if they are Dominique or Barred Rock, BUT really want to know if I have a rooster or 2? I can't keep a rooster in our neighborhood, But these 2 are soooooo sweet and I would hate to have to give one or both away!? 😢 Any tips or advice? THANK YOU!!! I have gotten lots of conflicting advice...any experts out there that can help??

Dominique’s have rose comb like yours. Barred rocks have single combs. There are other differences as well but that’s the most obvious. The one on the left in the top picture looks like a hen but the one on the right I can’t tell for sure but I’d lean towards hen as not looking like the waddles are doing much. Are their combs the same color or is one redder?
