My coop is made out of a big thick plastic water tank. It is 6ft tall by 7 ft in diameter . At about 5 ft I have 4 windows around the coop about 10 inches by 12 inches. I have a 4 inch vent on top of the coop where the cap was to dump water in the tank. Then at about 5 and half feet up directly across from each other I put 2 4in by 10in vents in . I also put 2 of the same vents in across from each at the bottom of the coop about 6 inches off the floor. Is this enogh ventilation for the coops size? I ask because it was 87 degrees today in west central illinois and their coop was pretty warm on the inside

Your nose and the sweat on your brow are the beat judge!

Have an 8 ft by 8 ft area outside thats just needs a door cut in the coop to access the pen. All but 3 foot of the outside pen is shaded

Hmm... It's hard to imagine this coop. Plastic really holds in heat though. Like someone else said, maybe build a shade over the top of the coop to keep things cooler. It sounds like a lot of vents, but it's really hard to know. I have almost an entire side of hardware cloth during the warm months, plus two windows that are opened across from each other and a raised roof with about 2 inches all around. Sit out there and see if its too hot for you. If it is, it's probably hot for them too....
