I am on day 15 and I am going to do my final candling on day 17 before lockdown, if I see bad eggs (infertile or dead embryos) do I have to take them out or can I just leave them in there until hatch day?

Also, I saw my babies move for the first time the other day (my first hatch) and it was the best feeling!!

The infertile I would remove. The others I would leave. I thought I had a dead one at lockdown, and I found put the hard way it was alive. I love to see them moving in there oo. Congratulations!

Thanks for your advice! I was hesitant about tossing the ones I think are dead JUST in case. I will just toss the infertile ones

xs 2. I remove clears and early quitters at day 10. Anything else, (unless it's very apparent or it smells) stays in until the end.

Thanks Amy will do. Haven't smelled anything funky yet!

you don't!!! lol

I remove the clears when I go into lockdown in an incubator and leave all the others in. I don’t bother to candle with a broody hen. When I candle I mark the eggs with a black check or a red x so I can see afterwards what I was thinking but I’ve had some surprises. Some of my eggs are pretty dark and it’s hard to see much beyond clear or the air sac in them anyway. I’ve never had a stinky egg in an incubator. As long as the incubator is pretty clean when you start, the eggs aren’t bad dirty, and you wash your hands when you handle the eggs, stinky eggs are pretty rare.

The only stinky egg I remember was with a broody hatch when I was a kid. It was a hidden nest and that egg opened up right in the middle of her hatch. What a stinky mess. You really don’t want that in your incubator. But you should be able to smell a bad egg before it goes that far.

Good luck with the hatch!!!
