Hey guys! Ive had my lovely chicks for a little over two months with confidence from the breeder that they were all female. However, over the last week or so I have noticed my Ameracaunas become a little more aggressive but didnt think much of it. Now this morning I was up extra early and went to let them into their run, looked into the coop and sure enough the white feathered one looked straight at me and let out what seemed to be a little crow! Suddenly, the brown colored one did the same. Was it copying the white one, or do I have 2 cockerels? I have never heard this before and they do not do it while they are in the run for the day. Thanks for the help! I can swap them at the breeder but Id like to know for sure.

I'm sorry, but both are certainly roosters. Pullets of that age wouldn't have such red combs, and no hen develops the shiny, pointed tail feathers that your two birds show.

Argh. Thanks for the quick responses, I can't have roosters in the city, so I'll go swap them this evening hopefully. Anything special I need to do to introduce 2 more to my 6 existing of the same age?

Did you just get these other ones or have they been with you for awhile? If you've had them for at least a month you can wait till night and put them in when the others are less likely to notice and have a fit. If you just got them then you should wait 30 days to introduce them to your chickens just in case their carrying any diseases.

I haven't gotten the replacements yet. Hopefully tonight. I've had all mine for a little over 2 months and am hoping to get 2 more around the same age to put me back at 8 total. So I'll need to wait to introduce them?
